Assata Shakur was a Black woman who advocated for Black women equality. She was born in times where Civil Rights were emerging. She took part in politics to advocate for Black vulnerable communities. After a shootout in 1973, resulted in the death of Trooper Werner Foerster and Shakur's companion Zayd Malik Shakur, as well as the wounding of another trooper and Shakur herself. After recovery, she was tried and convicted with some evidence. She served years in the Clinton Correctional Facility for Women in New Jersey on November 2, 1979. She escaped with the help of her supporters. In 1984, she reappeared in Cuba after receiving political asylum. While in Cuba, she wrote a book, letters and spoke in public. She was a strong woman who never gave up on advocating for the equal rights for Black women.
